NEW! Mandatory Inbound Travel Medical Insurance for Kenya Entry

Starting 6th October 2026, foreign visitors staying in Kenya for less than 12 months must purchase travel medical insurance through the government portal. This insurance is $44.00. You purchase this insurance during the ETA (visa) application process.

To ensure a hassle-free departure and arrival, here is everything you need to know before you fly:

THREE EASY STEPS

1. APPLY FOR YOUR ETA (Visa)
This must be done for each traveler, including children

2. BUY THE INSURANCE
This is done during the application process.

3. KEEP YOUR PROOF
No policy document is issued. Save your reference number and a screenshot of the “valid” status, and carry a copy of your eTA

DO I STILL NEED REGULAR TRAVEL & MEDICAL INSURANCE?

Our advise is YES!

Here is what is covered in the Kenya Policy
Medical Expenses – USD $20,000.00
Emergency Medical Transportation/Evacuation USD $25,000.00
Prescribed Medicines – USD $300.00
Mental Illness- USD $1,000.00
Repartiation of Mortal Remains – USD $5,000.00

HOWEVER! all treatment has to be paid for by the traveller, then they must reclaim the costs from the insurer… we suspect this will not be easy, especially after you have traveled home.

THEREFORE, for all said and purposes, this should be treated more like another tax.
