I’m Phoebe Otieno, but most people call me Fibs OT. I was born and raised in Nairobi, and my love for adventure started early, thanks to my dad, who worked as a tour guide and driver. Every so often, he’d borrow the company car and take us on safari, those are some of my most cherished childhood memories.
Though he was away often, he always came home in a big tour truck, brought us goodies, and would take us for a short ride around the estate as he tells us all about his trip. I remember thinking, If this is what he brought back, how amazing must the rest of his journey have been? It made me curious, inspired, and eager to one day experience that world myself.
He used to video call us from the safaris, sharing incredible sights and checking in whenever he missed us. His job always seemed fun, full of exploration, freedom, and unforgettable moments. One day, he took me along on a company trip, and that experience lit a spark in me that has never gone out.
When he passed away in 2017, I felt like he left that adventurous spirit to me. Since then, I’ve been passionate about driving long and short distances, exploring, whether solo or with friends, on road trips or safaris. I’ve traveled across Kenya, including Nyanza, the Eastern and Western regions, and I’ve visited Uganda and Tanzania as well. My bucket list is packed with places I still want to explore.
I’ve worked as a graphic designer, with education in Graphic design, Photography and Videography. Now I bring that creative eye into my work as a content creator, media and marketing. Joining Mackay Africa has been an incredible experience. It’s given me the opportunity to blend everything I love: creativity, connection, adventure, and storytelling that inspires others to explore too.
Working in the tourism industry continues to be a joy, and I’m excited for all the adventures that lie ahead.
